Almost Playground

As I posted on Facebook, we are not done with the playground. It will take another weekend to complete but hopefullly we can put up railings on the big tower and finish the big slide so they can have full acess. Swings and monkey bars would be the other parts waiting.

    WOW!!! That looks great!!! Can I play at your daycare?! The fence is great too! I bet the kids are just wild over it!

    Of course you can come play! The kids told Gideon today that he forgot to fix the playground. They also ask me several times a day if it is ready, especialy when they see me put in more bolts on that slide! Gid says by Tuesday.... I'll keep plugging away at the slide. Only about 25 bolts left.

Today we went to the Desert Museum in Tuscon AZ. It was about 90 degrees and cloudy. We were happy it was cloudy everytime the sun came out, the boys got too hot! Flying down went super fast, and everyone did great. Gevie slept on one and AnnaBelle slept on both plane rides. We did have one interesting thing and that was that Sara got to change a diaper at 28,000 feet. It was actually quite easy, the diaper changing table folded down over the toilet. I guess not all planes have them though. We were in a United Airbus (a used to be Ted plane). Tomorrow we are going to some caves as of now. Back to homework. Oh yeah the title... it's 7:15 and 80 degrees. Gevie keeps saying, "Mom, the snow's still gone." AnnaBelle is up to 10 steps. Sara

Hebb's Fires and Wires

A different kind of fire. The analogy is that we want what we are teaching to not only be a flicker, but become a continuous flame.   What do you think that Hebb meant when he claimed that, 'cells that fire together, wire together'? How will this influence the way that you teach? I just love how the above quote rhymes. Makes it easier for me to remember and to process. I’m also a big fan of analogies and this quote helps me imagine the learning process, ZIP, ZAP, POW. All that electrostatic neuron action. Overall, I agree with what this statement is (I think) intended for. Actions that are done repeatedly together will eventually become one. I think of all the things this is true for. For example as I type, I don’t need to look at my keys to know where the letters are. I’ve wired the hand coordination into my brain and hands with repeated trials (and mistakes, but now I am even proficient with the delete key without looking). March 10 and 11 we went up to Hungry Jack Lodge for the Mush for a Cure dog sled race. Tons of fun, we'll do it again next year. On Sat we snowmobiled from Hungry Jack to Gunflint Lake to see the start of the race then rode from there to Poplar Lake and Trail Center for the acitvities. It was about 50 degrees. Anyway, I was riding with nephew Carter, Grandpa had RaeAnne, and Gid had AnnaBelle and Geneivieve. They both fell asleep. No it is not the first time. On Sunday we played on Hungry Jack Lake and rode the girls "Kitty Cat." Gid also pulled them on the sled we have. Tons of fun for everyone. Genevieve also got to "drive" our SRX 700 with me in the back. Okay too scary. Definately not going to be the one to teach that kid how to drive. Her need for speed is a bit recklace. But we knew that from skiing.
